Domaines et Vins de Propriété - Bourgogne
ESTATE
Domaine Pierre Marey is a small family owned domain based in the village of Pernand-Vergelesses which is located on the hillside of the Côte de Beaune at the intersection of two small valleys and around a hill which at its summit has a tiny church called Notre Dame de Bonne Espérance (Mother of Good Hope).
On the "Montagne de Corton", three villages (Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix-Serrigny and Pernand-Vergelesses) share the same passion for winemaking and produce two famous Grands Crus : Corton (red) and Corton-Charlemagne (white).
The village of Pernand-Vergelesses was named after the parcel “Les Vergelesses” which produces a Premier Cru.
Located on a hillside, with its sloping alleys, Pernand-Vergelesses is also an important cultural place : Jacques Copeau (1879-1949) who modernised theatre in France, created in 1925 a school of dramatic arts in the house adjoining the Domaine Marey. Thanks to him, the “Copiaus” were founded. Great actors were trained in this school, with a “winegrowers' spirit”.
VINE GROWERS
Pierre and Eric Marey tend with love to their pretty domain of 10 hectares situated in Pernand-Vergelesses. Pierre Marey passed down to his son Eric his estate which rests upon “La Montagne de Corton”. Because his cellars are spread out in the village, Pierre Marey linked some of them with an inventing piping system.
WINE MAKING
Winemaking is done at the domain according to traditional methods. The wines are matured in oak and followed-up by a laboratory during their entire evolution.
Domain Pierre Marey sells mostly at the domain's cellar to faithful returning customers, the rest being sold to restaurants and merchants in France and abroad. This domain produces full-bodied wines with both structure and softness, firm tannins, blackberry and morello cherry aromas as well as undergrowth. Very complete wines, displaying perfume and charm. These wines being very racy one has to know how to wait for them to be ready to be enjoyed to the fullest.
